I know when the 6+ ratings are released each month, we can see wide variations in station rankings.
There could be a number of factors.
This is something I've never seen on any radio forum.
If someone were to have a PPM meter and it's in a home where either they or another person listens to a lot of satellite radio such as SiriusXM, would the PPM meter pick that up? Does SiriusXM have coded signals such as AM and FM stations?
I'm not sure of my facts here; doesn't SiriusXM measure revenue/success by subscriptions and NOT by how many people are listening to a given station?
I surmise the SiriusXM listening could apply to Spotify, Pandora and other music outlets. Even YouTube.
If I may, I have a question for the board regarding the CHR format not only in Chicago, but across the country.
Let's say new music is not very good for a period of months. How far back would a station such as KIIS-FM/102.7 Los Angeles, WHTZ-FM/100.3 New York, WDVD-FM 96.3 Detroit and others go? Could they dip into music from 2000-2005? Would they dare go back to the late 1990s or would this encroach upon Hot AC or Classic Hits stations? Thank you.
I don't believe SiriusXM is PPM encoded. I could be wrong
As far as CHR, I know some that go as far back as 1994. 103.7 KISS FM in Milwaukee frequently plays songs like Creep by TLC and Whoomp! There It Is by Tag Team
