DIRECTV has been in the news a lot lately, but not for the best of reasons. The satellite provider is currently in the middle of a huge carriage dispute with The Walt Disney Company, owners of ABC & ESPN for the last 10 days or so.
As I type this, some 11 million customers nationwide are without ESPN's family of networks, which also includes the SEC Network & ACC Network, along with Freeform (The former ABC Family), FX, Disney Channel's family of channels & ABC stations everywhere. That includes ABC 7 here in Chicago.
While there doesn't appear to be any progress in the Disney/ESPN/ABC dispute with DIRECTV, it appears as if the new Chicago Sports Network will soon have a home on the satellite provider.
According to the Sun-Times' Jeff Agrest, CHSN is reportedly on the cusp of signing its first distribution deal with DIRECTV.
It's expected that CHSN will inherit Channel 665 on DIRECTV, currently occupied by NBC Sports Chicago. NBCSC will officially sign off September 30.
The Sun-Times' Jeff Agrest reports in addition to studio space at United Center being set up, CHSN has announced the following on air talent for Bulls' & Blackhawks' pre & postgame coverage:
Bulls: Host: Jason Goff Analyst: Kendall Gill Insider: K.C. Johnson
Blackhawks': Host: Pat Boyle Analysts: Caley Chelios & Tony Granato
