Cubs' fans watching Marquee Sports Network saw someone other than Jon "Boog" Sciambi calling the Pirates/Cubs' game at Wrigley Field Wednesday night.
Cohen was on the call with Jim Deshaies & dugout reporter Taylor McGregor for Wednesday's home team broadcast of the Pittsburgh Pirates/Chicago Cubs' game on Marquee. It turned out to be quite a day & night for the Triple "A" Cubs' broadcaster and one Cohen will never forget.
In the latest episode of Marquee's "Cubs Weekly Podcast", Cohen tells how he got pressed into service to work the Pirates/Cubs' game in place of an ailing "Boog". In only Cohen's 3rd career MLB broadcast, he was the voice to a piece of Cubs' franchise history.
Cohen was on the call of the Cubs' combined no hitter, a 12-0 shutout over Pittsburgh Wednesday night at Wrigley Field. Shota Imanaga & 2 Cub relievers combined to shut out the Pirates Wednesday night. It was the 2nd combined no hitter and the 18th no-hitter in Cubs' franchise history.
Elise Menaker, who hosted pre & postgame on Marquee Wednesday night, was the dugout reporter for the Cubs' first combined no-hitter, a 4-0 shutout of the Dodgers on June 24, 2021 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Former Cub pitcher Zach Davies & 3 relievers combined to no hit Los Angeles 3 years ago.
Back to the present...You can find the latest episode of Marquee's "Cubs Weekly Podcast" & Cohen's long day's journey into night here:
Thumbs down to me. I meant to write Alex Cohen, the veteran radio & TV voice of the Triple "A" Iowa Cubs, in my initial story. That's E-1 if you are scoring. Even baseball fans & sports media nerds like me make errors.
Cohen is once again subbing for Jon "Boog" Sciambi this afternoon on the Yankees/Cubs' broadcast. Jim Deshaies is the analyst and the versatile Elise Menaker is the dugout reporter on Marquee Sports Network with Taylor McGregor on ESPN/ABC assignment for College Football on Saturday.
If DIRECTV can settle their carriage dispute with ESPN/ABC's parent company The Walt Disney Company, McGregor, Dave Pasch & onetime former Bear Dusty Dvoracek have the call of the Arkansas/Oklahoma State game at 11A (CT) on ABC Saturday.
