The Chicago Blackhawks have been on 720 AM WGN Radio since 2008. While John Wiedeman & Troy Murray have been the soundtrack for the team's 3 Stanley Cup Championships along the way, 1 of the guys who set the table as pre, intermission & postgame host left Chicago completely to become radio voice of the Boston Bruins in 2017. Now, we can add a second name to this list.
Earlier this summer, it was learned that Judd Sirott, the Bruins' radio voice since 2017, will succeed the retiring Jack Edwards as play-by-play voice for Bruins' hockey this season on NESN. Yes, the same Sirott who was pre, intermission & postgame host on Hawks' broadcasts for all 3 of the team's Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013 & 2015 and also called the AHL Chicago Wolves for 12 seasons prior to that. Judd's nephew is WGN Radio morning man Bob Sirott.
For the last 3 seasons, WGN Radio's pre, intermission & postgame broadcasts for Blackhawks hockey was hosted by Joe Brand. There is now a vacancy for that position.
It was learned today that Brand, 33, will become the new radio voice of the Pittsburgh Penguins on WXDX-FM, the alternative rock station that is identified as 105.9 The X. Brand will replace Steve Mears, who left to become the new TV voice of the Columbus Blue Jackets on Bally Sports Ohio this season.
