Just days before he hosts a 24 hour radiothon Thursday morning from 10A to Friday morning at 10A as part of 670 AM The SCORE's "Cubs for a Cure" event with parent company Audacy and the Chicago Cubs, there's BIG news involving Danny Parkins. He's leaving the Cubs Radio Network flagship completely.
The Sun-Times' Jeff Agrest reported this morning that Parkins will leave WSCR after 7 1/2 years for a new morning show this fall on FS1. Barrett Sports Media's Derek Futterman confirmed the Agrest story this afternoon.
The news of Parkins leaving Chicago comes at a time where FS1 is about to overhaul its sports talk "embrace debate" lineup in the wake of onetime former Chicago Tribune sports columnist Skip Bayless signing off "Undisputed". It was a daily sports talk & debate show that Bayless had co-hosted with former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe until Sharpe left FS1 for ESPN earlier this year. Futterman also reports that "Undisputed" has also been cancelled by FS1.
The unnamed morning show will be based in New York, and reportedly will also include another rising FS1 talking head in Emmanuel Acho, per Barrett Sports Media.
As for who would replace Parkins alongside Matt Spiegel in afternoon drive, that's not as clear. The SCORE could stay in house and promote from within. SCORE management could also elect not to replace Parkins and have Spiegel host afternoons solo.
The news of Parkins & FS1 raised plenty of eyebrows after he filled in twice last month for Colin Cowherd on "The Herd", also heard on FOX Sports Radio nationally. Former ESPN "SportsCenter" anchor Ashley Brewer co-hosted the 2 Parkins' shows based in Los Angeles. Cowherd has raved about Parkins on his own podcast, saying that Danny is "the most talented sports talk radio host in the country".
It's unclear when Parkins would sign off on The SCORE, let alone when FS1's revamped daytime lineup would take effect.
