It is a surprise to some, but the Chicago White Sox have announced a new TV play by play voice for the upcoming season. The job goes to John Schriffen, one of the many PBP voices at ESPN. Schriffen, 39, becomes only the 2nd minority PBP voice in Major League Baseball. Dave Sims, the veteran PBP voice of the Seattle Mariners, is the only other minority PBP voice in the league.
Schriffen joined ESPN in 2020, calling NBA Summer League & G-League Basketball, along with College Football & Basketball for the network's many outlets. He has also called the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) during the 2020 pandemic as well as selected MLB national radio broadcasts for ESPN Radio.
While the national work will still be worked out, Schriffen plans on being at the ballpark for the bulk of the Sox games with analyst Steve Stone on NBC Sports Chicago and can't wait to get to work.
