As we begin 2024, I thought it would be fun to take a poll as to the finest radio morning show in Chicago.
Okay, I have a couple of choices, however, my top pick has to be 93.1/WXRT-FM with Marty Lennartz. Terri Hemmert is a national treasure, and nobody will forget the late Lin Brehmer. RIP.
I hope everyone enjoys a grand new year in this great city of Chicago!
Thank you for responding to my inquiry. I'm guessing from the lack of feedback; many have simply given up on either Chicago radio in the morning or have decided not to share.
Hunter, I am with ChiTownGal, I vote for Morning Edition, WBEZ. The rest of the FM and AM band is barren of anything enjoyable in AM and just about every other daypart.
PPM has killed anything that is spoken for more than 11 seconds. When they do go over 11 seconds, it is usually ridiculous drivel. Commercials have killed music or talk continuity. The wit and intelligence targeting the audience has been left behind. It is a race to the bottom of the barrel.
Concerning AM drive.....
The days of Johnny B are gone. The days of Doug Banks are gone. The days of Eddie & JoBo are gone. The days of Mancow are gone. The days of Larry LuJack are gone. The days of Wally Phillips are gone. (50 share in AM drive, now unheard of, up until his last day when he transitioned to an afternoon drive show. Pure comedy, not staged nonsense, hate, celeb gossip, with fake background laugh tracks).
You see the trend.

Re: Chicago's Best Radio Morning Show (rimshot WVLI)
Barely a rimshot station for Chicago, 92.7 The Valley (WVLI Kankakee) with Mike Tomano accompanied by newsman Rob West is my daily wake-up show. It’s the closest I have heard to the “Full Service” format of decades ago. Local and national news, a few songs, trivia/contests, and Mike and Rob are actually allowed to talk — even go on a short tangent once in a while. Sometimes it’s a bright yet serious show, sometimes hilarious, it varies enough day by day to always feel alive. Oh… Can’t forget Mike Perrine’s “Farm Time” progress reports at :15 after the hour LOL.
