WMVP as expected has now applied to move their transmitter site. It will be diplexed at the WCPT nighttime site and night power will drop to 37,000 watts.

Their nighttime current signal is already brutal due to being directional. This is almost certain to make it worse.
Just amplifies how the AM band is starting to crumble and show irrelevance. Focusing on IP delivery. Don't be surprised if WMVP shows up on a translator or other non full FM signal.
Chicago Bears move to AM 1000 and soon I'll be in one of the new, deep nulls for nighttime coverage. Perfect.
Today, I get decent signal and fidelity from WMVP, but it doesn't matter because 95% of the AM radios out there (and some under my own roof) sound horrible, even for voice. Soon it will be easier to find households with a buggy whip than an AM/FM radio.
I looked at the proposed contours in the engineering packet (available at the link included in original post), and, to me, looked like if anything, WMVP might improve their signal with this move.
The proposed nighttime contours (figure 24 in engineering packet) show new coverage of much of Kendall county and western Kane and McHenry counties. In return, they give up coverage of cornfields in southeast Will county (Peotone), Kankakee county, and Newton & Jasper counties in NW Indiana.
Seems like a smart, cost-effective and well-engineered solution to me. I figured WMVP would end up diplexing with someone when Disney held onto the transmitter site, and WCPT's site seemed like a good fit given WMVP's directional signal.
Yes, AM radio is fading in relevance (and I don't think a law requiring it in cars is going to fix that), but it's not dead yet. Kudos to GKB for continuing to invest in WMVP and not just throwing in the towel like others have (see Emmis and WIBC in Indy).
When you diplex, your signal goes to crap. That is a known fact in transmissions.
GKB is not investing. They are saving a ton of money leaving the current site in Downers. The homeowners have been trying to rid of the antennas for years since everything grew around it. This is cost cutting, period.
This is a stopgap measure as all Diplexed signals are, before going away. Concerning Emmis, they are literally out of the radio business. They are ridding of all their AM sticks & land because they cost an arm and a leg to operate, like Audacy.
Let's be honest. How many stand alone (no FM counterpart at all) AM signals are Top 5 in the Top 5 markets? Top 10? Top 25? Add that to the fact that people under 40 are no longer listening or know what AM is. There is no return on investment blasting and maintaining AM signals that no longer bill or profit.
Sorry Bilbo, not coming down on you, but you are looking at this through rosy colored glasses when a hurricane is passing through!
They like Good Karma so much they let them buy the stations and now Good Karma will be doing national sales for the network.
As far as the tower site, there were a few others, particularly Los Angeles where Good Karma didn't get the tower site. Disney wanted the land. They know it's worth more money than the station.
Will the Bears, if successful this year, Be "good karma" for WMVP after this year's White Sox fiasco?

Loved CFL, collecting charts as a kid. Loved the TM shotgun, "Super CFL" shotgun. The day they went to BFL music, was my last day listening.
Here's a THUMBNAIL SKETCH. I'm sure there's more-better, but CFL was a "ell of a station!"
