Looking at the ratings off of Rick Kaempfer's blog, WFMT now has a .5 share via the FM signal and .5 share streaming. The cume is lower. Obviously the demo breakdowns will vary, but, let's be honest this is telling. It indicates that some programming on radio will ultimately move online. WFMT's audience is usually affluent, higher educated, more artistically inclined than most of the public. Also most likely to have high speed Internet and be technologically educated. So they could be the first abandoning FM.
Would it be profitable for Window to the World to sell the signal and just stream online? Air more Public Radio programming? LMA it to someone else?
WFMT is larger than WFMT itself. They syndicate programming to other stations worldwide. Member of the European Broadcasting Union. They charge an affiliation fee for that. They obviously could do that without the radio station but I don't see them getting rid of it.
