"Consolidate some of the brands"??? What the living hey heck does that mean? They are going to consolidate Q-Rock and The River?? Star 96.7 and Star 105.5????

Yes you will most likely see jocks tracking the same formats or actually simulcasting to cut down even more staff and streamline it. But the latter will kill the localized ad sales and billing too.

My bet is that WXLC is going to see the most change, considering the amount of recent staff eliminations.

I'm thinking they'll change WXLC to the "Star" branding and simulcast with WZSR (and WSSR if they really want to be cheap). There is a good amount of signal overlap with 105.5 and 102.3, but together, it would bring solid coverage of one brand to Lake and McHenry counties.

Or maybe bring the "River" branding/format to 102.3. Or "WIIL-Rock" branding to 100.7 (hey-remember WLLI?)

Just wild guesses I'm pulling out of my posterior. We'll see what happens soon - stay tuned!

Yeah I could definitely see 102.3 becoming star or they condense star to the strongest signals. Not really sure how they could do that with the Rock formats, wouldn't really work geographically

I think that is coincidence. The WXLC calls have been around forever and 102.3 is actually very profitable due to it heritage and solid footprint, so it has the most exposure and recognition. I think WLIP is the only other one with longer heritage. But its small 250W footprint makes it super duper local. At some point you will see that go dark.

This was a sudden surprise move from WLIP's management....
Remembering Kenosha began on the day after Labor Day, 2007. I sincerely, deeply loved doing both programs and I was so honored by the great public reception they gathered.
During the pandemic, I did Remembering Kenosha for free in order to keep the programs fresh. Econo Sewer & Drain - great people in every respect and highly worthy of your patronage - offered me studio facilities in their Uptown headquarters, while I continued to do the Music of the Stars from the Gurnee Mills studio.
On the afternoon and evening of Sunday, March 5th, 2023 I found two unusual private messages from the content director asking me to attend a 10:15 am Monday meeting down at the Gurnee Mills without specifying its nature. There I was told I was terminated, that yesterday's Music of the Stars was to be my last broadcast and that it wasn't related to the quality of the program. I was given two minutes to speak, then was told to leave the building. A Gurnee police squad had been waiting upon my arrival outside; the embarrassed officer rather reluctantly admitted he'd been summoned "to maintain the peace". From 31-year program host to potentially-dangerous threat!
And then I learned that all my Remembering Kenosha and Music of the Stars podcasts had been deleted. All that rare, historic Remembering Kenosha material I had researched and broadcast and recorded and indexed could have been offered to the Library and History Center."

Nice way to treat an 82 y/o human being!!!!

John, you have rumors that Audacity is thwarting its towers (read AM) into a separate company. You see them turning off AM sticks in medium markets. This trend will continue.

You have to really question..... where does a 250W daytime that is largely not local figure in the big picture? Daytime only AM stations? Among FM translators polluting the band, IP based content delivery etc.

I just posted another thread. Get a load of that one to dovetail off this topic.
