What Is Audacy’s Atlas? And Are Divestitures Coming?

Over the past few months, Audacy has been transferring some of its assets into a new holding company, Audacy Atlas, LLC. This week saw the FCC approval of its first station license transfer and the filing to move two more stations into this new portfolio. In addition to Radio.com, FCC and public records searches show that fifteen tower sites have also been moved into the holding company. These include the pending to be sold sites for 610 KILT Houston and 720 KDWN/1140 KXST Las Vegas. Other sites moved into the LLC include the tower land for 550 WGR/1520 WWKB Buffalo, 670 WSCR/780 WBBM Chicago, 830 WCCO Minneapolis (both primary and auxiliary), 850 WEEI Boston, 1080 KFXX Portland, 1080 WTIC Hartford, 92.5 WBEE Rochester, 97.1 KFTK-FM St. Louis, 101.9 WLIF Baltimore, 106.7 KROQ Los Angeles, 107.7 WLKK Buffalo, and 107.9 WLZL Washington DC. https://radioinsight.com/headlines/248820/what-is-audacys-atlas-and-are-divestitures-coming/

They can divest to raise cash but man, they owe so much, will it matter? If they liquidate or file for protection a good court/judge will go after these assets if they can prove it is not a totally different company or they were sold to an outside entity.

Maybe there is a big fire sale coming. They just announced that 720 KDWN/1140 KXST Las Vegas are both going dark March 1. Could *all* of these sticks be going dark soon, with the land sold from underneath them?

Taking a 2.3 signal (N/T) and a 0.4 signal (Sports) they are probably running off the bird dark? Wonder if they are going to run these off of FM stick or just chuck the formats all together.

Phil might be right. They might be exiting the AM band, totally or in most markets due to cost of land under the sticks, or paying rent for them. 780 is already on FM. Which FM here would lose their slot to give space to AM 670? (A couple of years ago I suggested that 670 was for sale. I was ridiculed for it). If they can justify shutting off the AM sticks and let it ride on an FM or an app, I can see it. Chicago, I believe would not go dark, but they would try to sell everything except the tower, TX, etc.

Few things about the AMs in Las Vegas.

The land was already heavily developed by Amazon and Amazon wanted more buildings.

The 1140 frequency runs an extremely low rated Sports betting format.

KDWN's ratings are not that great. They actually gave another company one of their full power FM stations (KXTE) in exchange for KDWN so they could do this.

KDWN's translator will continue to broadcast via HD2

Ground conductivity in that area is terrible. AM signals are pretty useless.

They will need new Aux facilities for their FM stations, because they are located at this site.

I figure they’re so upside-down they are at least asking the question, market by market.

Phil, when you are bleeding so bad a tourniquet is needed, trying to use a band aid will only prolong the pain for a few more moments, not solve the issue and allow to survive.

Sorry, this is radio we are discussing, my bad, they play by different rules. But their headquarters are Beautiful! SMH!
