I don't know if anyone knows the answer to this, but I thought I would give it a shot. At one time, WGCI had one of the hottest mix shows during the late 80's (1987-1989). Then in 1989, the mix show hours were diminished. In 1992, when Elroy Smith took over the station, he lessened the house mixes to about one hour and the other two hours were nothing but R&B. Does anyone know what exactly was going on during this time to have WGCI make all of these changes?
PJackson. Club 107.5 was awesome during that time.
You are correct. B96 was owning the mixes weekend nights and then lunch, drive time and 10PM weekdays. They were a Dance/Top40 powerhouse at the time, taking on a bunch of the old 102.7 WBMX (original one) mixers and jocks. Also, 106.3, a weak Class A in Lansing was 106.3 Jamz, focusing on Rap/Hip Hop. It was wreaking havoc on WGCI for years, until WGCI's parent company bought them out and put them out of the format.
