WMBI AM 1110 off air

I have noted WMBI AM 1110 off air for the past 3 days. Not sure if it is a technical problem, or it is related to possible sale of the station.

I called the station. Transmitter needs a part, waiting for new part to arrive. Not related to sale at all. Maybe it’s an old transmitter. Person with whom I spoke was very nice and said they will hopefully be back on the air very soon.

Nothin special heard so far. Just WGNZ Fairborn, Ohio and WBT Charlotte, North Carolina, but they are common during nighttime when WMBI is off anyway.

They are common at night esp WBT being skywave, but that is pretty cool during the day as it is groundwave reception.

As I posted in another thread, WMBI-AM will most likely never sell unless paired to a translator.

I believe their programming is simulcast on 90.1 HD3 24/7 if people absolutely need to hear it on broadcast radio locally.

They could sell 1110 but I don’t think anybody would buy it at the asking price. Doesn’t mean someone couldn’t buy it and run it while looking for a translator somewhere down the road. It’s not as signally challenged as WAIT was or WCKG is on the AM side. There is full market coverage and I’m assuming they want more as a result.

1110 is a great AM signal. It makes no sense financially to buy it and hope to get a translator. At that point the entity owning the translator has you over a barrel.

Also, most translators worth pairing it up are owned by EMF. The only worthwhile Chicago translators on the air right now are 101.5 followed by 97.5

Jeremy, we do realize besides us and some people that noticed they have something called "HD" FM radio in their car, next to no one knows about HD radio. Another example how the radio industry dropped the ball. A real robust publicity push might have made a difference. Followed by some actual compelling programming.

What I meant was if they didn’t want to stream the programming (Moody has several web feeds) the option is there for the audience to listen to 90.1-3 if their car radio has the technology.

I believe this is a key reason why they are selling off the AM signals.

Hi Jeremy. Gotcha. I was just indicating how HD has failed overall. Wasn't directly at what you posted.

Moody is having a cash flow problem. They have also sold off a lot of their property including living quarters for disabled people. It is not just the radio part of it.
