Nielsen Audio PPM Ratings for chicago

iHeartMedia Adult R&B “V103” WVAZ Chicago grows its market lead with an 8.4 to 8.9 gain for what Huff notes is the largest share in the history of that signal. Entercom News 780 WBBM/105.9 WCFS places second down 6.9 to 6.5, while Hubbard Hot AC “101.9 The Mix” WTMX is third 4.6 to 5.1.

Public News/Talk 91.5 WBEZ jumps to fifth in Chicago with a 3.8 to 4.7 gain. Trending downward are Entercom AAA 93.1 WXRT (4.7 – 3.9 – 3.3) and Sports “670 The Score” WSCR (3.2 to 2.1).

WGCI at a 1.7 ouch. Pretty sad considering how strong they were in decades past. Power 92 is just behind them and the 2 stations combined are just barely over a 3 share. Not sure why Crawford hasn’t moved WSRB to the stronger 92.3 signal. Not that Crawford has any chance of dethroning V103 but it might knock them a down slightly and Crawford might bill better with more adult demos. Why go after a station at barely a 2 share instead of the station at a 9 share. What would happen to 106.3 in this case who knows, maybe gospel. The only gospel station is on AM and 102.3 is too far out to be a factor.

Entercom is tearing it up! US99 with two local day parts up 1/10th of a point! That’s should make them feel good. Keep an eye out on that station changes are a coming. Look for a couple of “has beens” come to save the never gonna be talent.

I was thinking the same thing. Entercom has their competitor leave, they gain nothing from it. It is like people literally fell off the face of the planet. No surprise @ US99, keep rehashing the old school, when the old school along with the deforestation that got sent down from corporate has stripped this legend to depend on life support.

Concerning WLS-AM they are up. They have not been here in a long time. Agreed, the election helped them, WCPY and REALLY helped WBEZ! But, in your previous post, you noted "Bruce St. James" aka dumpster fire. Wendy is awesome. If WLS-AM is treading mainstream and losing the far right national feeds, Wendy might be the next AM drive show, if Bruce does not cut it or finds his next hip hop hook elsewhere.

I am happy Stephanie is in charge. Seriously, this might give WGN a run for their money. In this ####ed up time, I hope they give her the tools to make this happen.

It amazes me that people will dumb down for no jocks, when this generation grew up with real live jocks. But it is no secret they are aiming 54+ demo which will be less apt to listen online. Nowhere else to go.

Rock 95-5 seems to be suffering from a musical identity crisis.

They are an Alternative gold based rock station that happens to play some harder titles. Def a Female based format, esp having 2 Female jocks on air and one in AM drive.

I don't wanna hear that crap on a rock station. Not only that.... Where's the new rock bands?? Greta Van Fleet, Rival Sons, Dirty Honey, Kissin' Dynamite, Kickin' Valentina, Texas Hippie Coalition, The Pretty Reckless, and especially Mammoth WVH. This is by far the dullest and most boring rock station ever in Chicago. At least The Loop had stretches where they played Motorhead and Iron Maiden... 2 bands that should be a staple on rock radio.

And the morning show sucks.

Peter I assume you a Male. The format is def Female friendly. 311 Love Song? Goo Goo Dolls? On a station that plays Poison? Motley Crue? They are either going to be the biggest success redefining the rock format or will be a new format in a year.

A lot of people were hoping for the rebirth of WLUP or even WMET. Not happening.

Also they never said this was a current rock station. They are 100% gold (so far).

It’s modernized Classic Rock. Slightly more mass appeal otherwise it wouldn’t work. I’m pretty sure they did their research.

Yeah these were trailblazin Active Rock and AOR songs in their day! Please, they were solid Pop and Modern AC hits, especially 311 & Fall Out Boy.

Jeremy, do you at least see that this is a female slanted station as I pointed out?

I am not too sure how well this was researched out, as they are trending down already. I do not agree with the musical direction, it is too broad. Go harder or lose the hard and go toward the genre I listed above. I give them credit, they launched with a live staff. Look at Entercom's shit show currently ensuing @ US99 & B96 running with no jocks or nationalizing their content.

Lets hope they have some advertisement planned especially that it is the holiday. WLIT will be sucking the life out of music radio and Covid will be consuming news radio.

Greg, B96 has no night shift. They have cut back bad, but not as bad as US99. CHR music and Hip Hop are crap these days. KISS which isn't great themselves and WTMX which isn't a P1 competitor, are always on top of them. Jams is also still competition for them. I am curious which one they will kill off to help the other. I say Jams will be gone. B96 has more to gain if Jams goes away. Not the reverse.

WGCI is really in a bad way too. In my whole life that they have been Urban, they have never been this low. They are not hitting their core demos.

Not really a shock Greg.

Current Hip Hop, really sucks. Bad. The releases are terrible.

The younger generation can go a lot more places to hear new Hip Hop & urban instead of listening to 20 minutes of commercials.

The old days, the Urban stations "worked" the neighborhoods. Worked the clubs. Worked local talent. That has dried up with cheap corporations and people in radio working 19 jobs along with their on air shift.

Overall, current based music is in the dumps.

It is just a bad scene. I am not sure how much lower it can go? Will they wait until Covid passes and just take losses and keep laying people off?

Those are all the bands that get airplay on stations like Q-Rock 100.7 way way out in the sticks — no big corp has a formula to make that work apparently
