WGN America’s ‘News Nation’ launching tonight - 3 hours a night?

Their claim is they are going against CNN, FOX and MSNBC. What they really mean is prime time only. They do have an app, but until they actually make it 24/7 and secure major market FTA signals and Cable/SAT provider channels AND get listed on those free channel apps on Roku etc, this is dead in the water, even if they are unbiased. No matter how good, that is 21 hours a day you are sending them to the competition.

However, prime time is when the other cable news networks are all opinion compared to daytime hours where there is at least some although not much straight news programming. Agreed about needing an online presence. Still, I hope this succeeds. More news and less talking heads is certainly a good thing but it won’t be an easy task.

I'm kind of surprised they did not come out with a new network name... or branding at this launch for the channel... still going with "WGN America". There is no connection to WGN-TV anymore; unless I am missing something. Maybe if they ran an hour of the AM news, the noon news, and maybe one hour of the evening news?

If there is nothing that parallels WGN-TV anymore, why hold onto the legacy name/branding? (What else is worth on WGN-TV now to even consider putting on the "superstation" as some of these once were known.)

I watched it. No left or right slant. Pretty good. Video and audio was pretty good as well.

I am not sure if this will happen every night, but their 3-hour broadcast just started repeating at 10p and will run to 1a - so tonite they cover 7p-1a.

Agreed. For the 40 minutes or so that I watched, it was a quality broadcast, and appeared to be as “unslanted” to me as reasonably possible.
