Z92, the problem is the WBMX (the real original one), the person that was listening in 1985 was 18. They are now 53. They are phasing out of the 25-54 demo. When the 18 year old was listening to B96 in 1990 they are now 48. There is still room for that format, but the window is closing. The big problem is, the white boys in corporate radio think this is a disposable format that doesn't matter. It was good enough in the 80s and 90s to garner Top 3 ratings, but it is frivolous now. If they started the format and grew it (aged it along), it would kick ass for years. But when you see WLS and WDRV being so rock based, while V103 is so Urban based, the niche for the White, Latino and some African Americans is not met and expected to pick one of those 3. Or they simply go to SXM, iHeart, streaming and turn off the commercial radio. Wow, need to cut a bit more and force out bland programming off of a hard drive! |
The 70s.... Jungle Boogie came out in 1973. The 18 year old then is now 64!
