This is NOT concerning Mr. Skilling. He clearly, clearly has a passion and has a love of his profession. That cannot be denied. |
This is for anyone in weather forecasting, though. I wish I could have been wrong as many time in my job. I'd have been fired, easily. Of course, doctors put an "X" on the leg, so they work on the right one! The Dentist hopefully works on the back molar, vs the eye tooth!
I'd heard the same forecast on WBBM-AM and in Milwaukee (where I was at the time.) Started out as major storm, then was adjusted, and adjusted again, then dropped, or greatly reduced.
On occasion, you'll hear (2 times a year) "we got this one right!"
The thing to remember, seriously, is the "Chicago area" could easily go from Kenosha to Champaign, west to past Rockford (looking at the WBBM-AM daytime coverage map.) That's a wide swath.
Like any one of us in life, we have peers on how we should live our lives. "If I were you..." and the like. Everyone knows how to run YOUR life, etc.
Truth be told, you are damn if you do. Damned if you don't!
If you love what you do, keep on doing it! Mr. Skilling is clear, precise and overall the best.
I HAVE wondered if the "watch the news at 10PM" thing works. I look at a few weather sites I have bookmarked. Will always look West at cloud formations to see if clouds look bad, etc., to see if I can cut the grass or walk the dog.
Watching the guffawing, fake smiles and phony-forced laughs over & over has gotten old! Really.
