95.5 - Bobby Bones is the reason they are still on. Market clearance. iHeart gives Bobby Bones stations to catch on. Then, with 99.5 tanking, THAT is the BIG problem. They were the leader, for years. |
Entercom is toxic. They have managed to drag down the market, kill off WUSN and WBBM-FM, WBMX is trending that way too in their core demos. WXRT is flat but with the recent firings and shifts, that can change any moment.
Yes WLIT is affecting the market, but this has been chronic for a while now.
Yes CHR is in the toilet. Either B96 or WTMX need to shift to a niche of their CHR formats as was done in the 90s, 80s etc.... (HOT AC? Gold CHR heavy? EDM? Dance AC?) Or just flip to something else. I can't believe they are doing nothing. At all. Complacency.
Yes Urban like CHR is in the shitter. Look at WPWX and WGCI. WGCI has not been at a 2.2 since I was born and I am not young. This Trap crap that is dominating Hip Hop is atrocious. I can't see anything replacing it either. Crawford/Dontron or whoever they are today sit on formats and will run them at a 0.0 but they have subscribed to ratings again, there are big problems in ad revenue sales over there. If WPWX exited WGCI could see an uptick. If WGCI exited the reverse is not really true. But, if WGCI can retro a bit until hit Urban returns w/o hurting V103 or KISS, fine. But we see that WBMX doing their whatever throwbacks is starting to level off.
Bottom line, the next "new" trying for "Worst to First" format will not be on 95.5, but what will it be? Most likely you will see format tweaks and a lot of stale radio with bottom dweller ratings.
Side note, good job WBEZ. Public radio is maligned as "Left Radio", but it really isn't left or right to replace WCPT or WIND. It def is not for those w/o a college degree though.
