That proposal is so ####ed up. Putting a band aid on the bleeding out limb. |
Ajit is an idiot that needs to stay in corporate America, because he does not think about the citizens, just in the role of a corporate machine.
If they go all digital, they are still NOT in STEREO! Some, not all of the AM HD equipment can decipher AM Stereo pilots, but they CAN'T decipher both at the same time.
The amount of hash on the band will explode and force a lot of the weaker analog stations off the air.
Gone will be all the AM daytimers. (Escalate the death effect).
Expand the FM broadcast band below 88Mhz. (This will slow down its death to new technology). Do it now, because it will take years to get equipment in cars and other devices with the new extended band. No initial migration of current FM stations including LPFM and translators. Strictly relocate the 24 hour larger AM stations in major and medium markets to that band. When those fill up, then allow a second round of LPFM or translators a chance to migrate, on whatever frequency allocations remain. Give the others remaining on AM a fighting chance relocating their frequency allotment and give them 24 hour status. This will give fringe, minority and smaller audience outlets a chance. It will still allow the AM band to exist as a medium for mass communication if the internet goes down or as a nation we are under attack. The vacated FM LPFM and translators can go on a 3rd round to the remaining AM stations with no FM allocaiton, giving them a local pinpointed presence on Translators.
Sorry, makes too much sense and has been battled since the early 80s how to revive the AM band, with one bad decision after another. In 10 years we will ponder the dead AM band and the nearing death of FM radio.
