New Owner For Chicago’s Clubsteppin 95.1

Tracey V. Bell’s Integrated Brand Marketing Company has purchased 95.1 W236CF Chicago and 95.1 W236CG Bolingbrook from John Bridge’s Windy City Broadcasting for $3.5 million.

With the purchase of the two translators, Bell has also taken over operations of R&B Oldies “Clubstepping 95.1” from founder Lamont Watts. Watts version of the programming continues on as a webcaster at Clubsteppin.com, where it originated in 2005.

All of the station’s programming and staff continues with the change in management although Reach Media’s Tom Joyner Show is temporarily off in mornings until new contracts are finalized.

The translators are fed by SBS’s 107.9 WLEY-HD2 Aurora. Watts’ Future Vision Entertainment began operating the two translators last August but never exercised his option to purchase the stations. https://radioinsight.com/headlines/180090/new-owner-for-chicagos-clubsteppin-95-1/

You are incorrect.

The 2 signals have been sold.

The original Clubsteppin in back on the Web only.

The new owners are running the same format and the same slogan as before. This is a win for Watts, I can assure you he is getting paid to use his branding and with no ratings and the overhead he was not making money in the past or he would have bought the signals himself.

Do these owners realize the new rules placed in by the FCC? This could be a 3.5 million loss really quickly!

Aren't station sale and/or transfer of control documents filed with the FCC? While it's probably too early to view any transfer info from the new "owners", I can't find anything on FCC.gov where Windy City transferred control to Lamont Watts/Future Vision Entertainment.

Interesting you bring up FCC rules. Seems the new "owners" are unfamiliar with the requirement to air station identification (call letters and city of license) at (or near) the top of each hour for the originating station (WLEY-HD2), and an I.D. for the translator 3x/day in specified periods. FCC fines are real. #fedswatching

LOL, the "old owners" or "Mr Watts running it" have not been identifying correctly for a year now. I have posted this here before a few times. They never announce the Chicago calls and the EP calls they say "W242 Elmwood Park".

The FCC gives 0 craps. They are fining no one unless it involved cell phone jamming issues or airplanes are ready to fall out of the sky. The Ham bands are full of jammers and illegal operators. Same in analog business. GMRS band is a joke compared to past. The FCC has been cut to nothing and they are just a money generator. Dropped by their Park Ridge office and the mail was piled 3 ft high out of the mail slot on the ground.

I honestly think as far as field operations, the Park Ridge office only has 1 or 2 employees. Total

Otis Gilmore owns the trademark to Club Steppin not Lamont Watts.

Not so fast. Your link is invalid. I searched it. Look close, you can do it! Filing date was April 14, 2019. Ohhhh lookie! There is a Published for Opposition on there. Ooooh. You have no clue what it means. Go hit up google you ####in genius. No one owns it. Also trademark has not been granted yet. The trademark was lodged way after Watts created his brand & after it appeared on 95.1 also the trademark is not finalized.

The real point being made was that Lamont never even applied for a trademark. Will he contest the application? I could ask him since I know him. But, I don't really care. Therefore, I won't.
