WBEZ 91.5 FM ADVERTISING ON 94.7 WLS FM

I was in the car about an hour ago and WLS FM went into a stopset, the second commercial was a 10 or 15 sec. spot for WBEZ. |
They said WBEZ was the station in Chicago to tune into for "News and Talk". They also mentioned something that would be on Morning Edition tomorrow.
All I could think is really?? WLS AM calls themselves "Chicago's Talk Leader" yet their sister station(with the same calls) is selling spots for a direct competitor!
I may have missed it, has WLS FM ever aired a spot for Mancow, Rush, Big John or Dahl(when he was still there)? If they did, I never heard them.
On overnights and weekends when the spot load is low, I do hear them hawking some of the weekend "shows" on WLS AM, never heard an ad for any of their other hosts though.
I know in these days radio will take any money they can, a couple of questions however.
Did the WLS sales people approach WBEZ or did WBEZ contact them?
Think about it, have you ever heard The Score or WBBM AM selling spots for Big 95.5 or V103? IMHO, it is selling out their own cluster and all but admitting WLS AM is NOT "Chicago's Talk Leader".
I guess the timing of this is what really caught me. As many of you already know, Cumulus basically sold or traded their whole cluster in New York(with the exception of 77 WABC) to EMF and Entercom. It was announced today that their station WPLJ in New York is leaving the air at the end of May.
As WYTZ mentioned that station will at least get a proper sendoff, unlike The Loop got. If it wasn't for Steve Dahl being on WLS at the time, they probably would not have gotten anything before EMF took over.
Am I reading to much into this or do you believe what a few of us are thinking, and that Z has talked about in detail in past threads?
That being that it is only a matter of time before Cumulus starts to sell off or trade WLS AM, WLS FM and WKQX?
I know it's one spot I heard, but really, talk about just coming right out and saying our sister station s**** listen to WBEZ for news and talk.
What do you think?
