The calendar says September, but it won't be much longer before the Chicago Blackhawks drop the puck on a new season. Although very little is expected on the ice again this season, there is one constant.

This morning, the Blackhawks & 720 AM WGN Radio announced another extension of the team's radio rights. It seems hard to believe, but the Hawks have been heard on the Nexstar-owned news & talk radio outlet since 2008. WGN Radio has been there for all 3 of the Hawks' Stanley Cup titles in 2010, 2013 & 2015.

It's a multi-year extension between the Hawks & WGN Radio. But that's not all...

Following the passing of former Blackhawk Troy Murray at age 63 losing his battle with cancer in March, WGN Radio has named Steve Konroyd as the team's full time radio analyst.

Blackhawk fans are definitely familiar with Konroyd, who played 4 of his 15 NHL seasons with the Hawks from 1988-92, posting 57 points in 251 games. He was studio analyst and was Eddie Olczyk's fill in on NBC Sports Chicago's broadcasts when Edzo was on assignment as well as analyzing games for the Phoenix Coyotes (Now Utah Mammoth), Columbus Blue Jackets & San Jose Sharks, along with NHL Network.

Konroyd will be pair with returning play-by-play voice John Wiedeman & pre, intermission & postgame host Charlie Roumeliotis on WGN Radio's Blackhawk broadcasts.

Comments from Blackhawks' President of Business Operations Jaime Faulkner as well WGN Radio President & General Manager Mary Sandberg Boyle regarding the Konroyd hiring & the team extending its radio deal again with Radio 720 can be found here:
