In March, it was revealed that NBC Universal would pull the plug on its long running entertainment news show "Access Hollywood" after 30 years on the air. In recent years, Mario Lopez hosted the nightly entertainment news show with Kit Hoover & Scott Evans as co-hosts. In Chicago, the show became a fixture at 6:30P weeknights on NBC 5.

With "Access" leaving NBC completely this weekend, it created quite a void for local stations across America. In Chicago, NBC 5 has decided to stay live & local with one of their newest on-air personalities.

Starting Monday, NBC 5 lead sports anchor Lou Canellis serves as host of "Tonight with Lou Canellis" at 6:30P (CT). It's a new 30 minute show that will blend sports talk as well as pop culture & entertainment.

Canellis' NBC 5 news teammates, along with a variety of contributing guests such as former Chicago Bears Head Coach Dave Wannstedt to break down the Bears' game on Mondays throughout the upcoming NFL season. Friday episodes of "Tonight" will be hosted by 104.3 FM The SCORE afternoon host Laurence Holmes.

Comments from Canellis himself about the new show as well as from NBC 5 President & General Manager Kevin Cross on what viewers can expect can be found here in this all important link:
