Jim Deshaies has been a fixture on Cubs' TV broadcasts long before Marquee Sports Network signed on the air in 2020. The former MLB pitcher joined the Cubs' broadcast team in 2013 after covering the Houston Astros from 1997-2012, the team he pitched for as a player from 1985-91 as part of a 12 game playing career.

Fans may not necessarily see it, but as the Sun-Times' Jeff Agrest found out, Deshaies has been broadcasting hurt this season.

As it turns out, J.D. as he's affectionately known started feeling pain in his left hip during Spring Training. Instead of sitting out the season, Deshaies will undergo hip replacement surgery September 30. That will be 3 days after the Cubs wrap up the 2026 MLB regular season in Boston September 27.
