According to Front Office Sports, Netflix has their eyes on McGregor, who has also been the primary Cubs' dugout reporter on Marquee Sports Network since they signed on in 2020, one month before the pandemic.
Although it's far from a done deal, Netflix is reportedly talking to many outlets in regards to on air talent and could very well be flexing its own muscle in sports television.
Netflix raised many eyebrows last Christmas when they acquired the rights to 2 NFL games involving Cowboys/Commanders & Lions/Vikings. Those games were produced by CBS Sports and featured Ian Eagle, Nate Burleson, Matt Ryan, A.J. Ross & former NFL referee turned CBS rules analyst Gene Steratore among its on air talent calling the games.
Netflix also raised additional eyebrows when they acquired streaming rights to MLB's Opening Night game between the New York Yankees & San Francisco Giants. The streaming service also acquired the MLB Home Run Derby rights during All-Star Week as well as this year's Field of Dreams Game in Dyersville, IA between the Philadelphia Phillies & Minnesota Twins. Netflix is paying about $50 million a year for the package.
The streaming service also just signed former ESPN anchor Elle Duncan as its face of its sports presentation. Could McGregor be next on their wish list?
