While you can listen to the games on 670 AM The SCORE, your Cubs Radio Network & the Audacy app in the Chicago area with Pat Hughes, Ron Coomer & Zach Zaidman providing the ONLY hometown radio call of this series, a certain channel that carried the Cubs/Padres' National League Championship Series in 1984 will do so again 41 years later.
ABC, which was an MLB broadcast partner dating well before ESPN signed on the air in 1979, will have the ESPN-produced broadcast of Padres/Cubs' NL Wildcard starting Tuesday. ABC's history with MLB dates as far back as 1953, believe it or not. The "alphabet network" also televised MLB games from 1976-1989 and again in 1994 & 1995 as part of what was called The Baseball Network with NBC. ABC has aired select games since 2020, produced by ESPN utilizing the network's graphics, music & talent.
When ABC carried the Padres/Cubs' NLCS in 1984, there was no such thing as the Wildcard & the Division Series like there are now. Back in '84, the late, great Don Drysdale, then the voice of the Chicago White Sox, called the NLCS on ABC with the late, great Earl Weaver, a very young Tim McCarver & Reggie "Mr. October" Jackson.
Fast forward to now. ESPN/ABC has assigned the voice of the Baltimore Orioles, Kevin Brown, along with his Orioles' broadcast partner & former MLB pitcher Ben McDonald & ESPN's own Jessica Mendoza, also part of the Los Angeles Dodgers' broadcast team, to call this NL Wildcard on ABC starting Tuesday. ESPN 1000 AM's Jesse Rogers will serve as dugout reporter.
Jon "Boog" Sciambi, the Cubs' principal TV voice on Marquee Sports Network along with dugout reporter Taylor McGregor will also work this Wildcard round separately. "Boog" and his Marquee teammate Doug Glanville, voices of MLB on ESPN Radio, are headed to Los Angeles as the reigning World Champions host the Cincinnati Reds starting Tuesday in the other NL Wildcard matchup. Alden Gonzalez will be their dugout reporter. McGregor will join Sean McDonough & former MLB 3B Todd Frazier for the Detroit Tigers/Cleveland Guardians' AL Wildcard starting Tuesday as well.
