I'm a lot older than most, and my heart sunk when this news came out last week. A part of me died. This has happened before with other stations dying. Some-most died after they had peaked and were shells of themselves, but 102-1 was A+ on my list. That good! Not a cookie cutter station. Locally run, locally
programmed.
1) What is K-Love doing that others are not? Music, approach, message, etc.
2) If radio is "dead" this really took a lot by surprise. Their FB page had hundreds of comments. (I'm not on FB, but could look at comments.)
3)We all evolve. I'm not the same person I was at 15, when I "knew everything." Still learning, I guess. WLS, Super CFL WOKY, were good in their time. (I wish some were still here.) The strong survive. IE: KDWB, KNX, WTOP....
4) Everybody knows how to run your life. Are we doing the same here with who should do what, program what? It's not my money. I have no skin in the game. Like me, they want to make money, do better than they did yesterday, or last year.
5) My radios have dials. I'll find something else or just turn the thing off.
Silence/quiet/peace/calm isn't too bad either!
6) My telling someone what to do: With WBBM having one person doing news 7PM-5AM (on repeat after 1AM, or "it's .... minutes after the hour" said over & over & over & over & over & over, I just turned it off! It's really easy! It takes so long to build a NEWS station and the people inside are letting it crumble. It's like "The True Old News Channel" --- a close runner up to the daily paper printed in Indiana! Nuts! Wandering off. I'm old.
As I've written years ago, I wish the commercial stations could go between 88.1-91.9, but it might be too late for that. Just seems unfair. It only works where the Educ/REL can go on 92.1-107.9.
Don't believe everything you read. Things/numbers can be manipulated. An old head of the company I retired from told us (employees) that.
We'll be discussing something else soon.
