Sadly DetectiveTom, this is common. Tesla has no AM on their radios. Ford was going to eliminate it until there was screaming and palm greasing from the broadcast companies that reached Congress and it was shelved. As time goes by, you will see the FM radio disappear too. In my vehicle, the antenna is now integrated in the windshield and I will be nice by saying, it performs like 💩 on FM and on AM it introduces a ton of noise.

We have discussed on here in the past, no one cares about legal ID's anymore. Not even the FCC. They have relaxed the requirements so much it is mind boggling. Furthermore, this is methodical, as Audacity is planning to decommission/sell the AM at some point. (Go back to your first point, that AM was not even available in the car).

Times are surely changing. I am not averse to change, but there are rural areas in the US that rely on AM radio signals. What happens when some hacker or the government disables/shuts off the internet? Or we are invaded and it is shut off? How will communication and sending mass messages occur? Total insanity.
