Pat Hughes, who has been the radio voice of the Cubs since 1996, won the Illinois Sportscaster of the Year Award today by the National Sports Media Association. Hughes last won this award in 2018.
Hughes also won the 2023 Ford C. Frick Award by the National Baseball Hall of Fame for "major contributions" to the sport. He & analyst Ron Coomer recently signed multi-year extensions to continue painting the picture for Cubs baseball on flagship 670 AM The SCORE, the Cubs Radio Network and the Audacy app in the Chicago era.
Veteran Sun-Times sportswriter Mark Potash was also named the NSMA Sportswriter of the Year for 2024 as well. Potash has been writing for the Sun-Times since 1987.
Ian Eagle, veteran TV voice of the Brooklyn Nets, CBS/Turner Sports & Westwood One, was named the 2024 National Sportscaster of the Year today as well. "MLB on FOX"/The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal was named 2024 National Sportswriter of the Year as well. It's the 2nd time Eagle & Rosenthal have won these awards.
