1. Available to go on the air by January 15.
2. Capable of capturing the kids who listen in this time slot.
3. Anxious to work hard.
4. Qualified to do more than "time and temp."
5. A firm believer in ultra-modern radio.
6. Finished with your military obligation. Remember, this was 1966.
7. Contact the program director which was Ron Jacobs at the time.
Interesting what this help wanted ad didn't say.
1. Send in a tape and resume along with your photo to KHJ.
2. Experience in other markets. This sounds like anyone who graduated high school or perhaps college, could get a shot at radio stardom.
3. There is no mention of salary. Perhaps this was based on knowledge and talent. I wonder what top talent at KHJ such as the Real Don Steele, Robert Morgan, Charlie Tuna and others were paid. The Drake format was launched, and the station became an overnight success story.
4. Were they an equal opportunity employer? I mean were women ever heard on KHJ?
Take into account, this was back in January 1966. Were seatbelts mandatory in cars way back then?
I thought this was an interesting ad. Take it for what it's worth.
A final note, I can't recall exactly where I found this original ad. It may have come from one of the old radio trade magazines such as Billboard or Radio & Records.
