While you can get the hometown radio call again this season from John Wiedeman & Troy Murray on 720 AM WGN Radio for every single game, the one notable change is former NBC Sports Chicago Blackhawk insider/writer Charlie Roumeliotis was recently named new pre & postgame host. Roumeliotis replaces Joe Brand, who left Chicago to become the new radio voice of the Pittsburgh Penguins on 105.9 FM The X (WXDX-FM).
As for CHSN, Pat Boyle follows the Hawks to their new TV home. After spending all 20 years at NBCSC, Boyle will set the table for the games on "Blackhawks Countdown". He'll be joined by Caley Chelios & Tony Granato in studio. Newcomer Rick Ball, just in from Calgary, replaces Chris Vosters as play by play TV voice with the returning Darren Pang as analyst. Chelios will also fill in whenever Pang is on "NHL on TNT" assignment. "Blackhawks Postgame Live" follows CHSN/Hawks' games.
As for tonight in Utah, it's a full national TV broadcast on ESPN from Salt Lake City. The game vs the Utah Hockey Club (That's their name this season) will be called by Bob Wischusen, who got rave reviews for his call of the Stanley Cup Playoffs last spring. Ray Ferraro & AJ Mleczko will provide the analysis and Leah Hextall will serve as rinkside reporter for the 9P (CT) puck drop.
It's the finale of an ESPN/NHL tripleheader that'll start with Blues/Kraken @ 3:30P (CT) in Seattle followed by Bruins/Panthers @ 6P (CT) from Sunrise, FL leading directly into the Blackhawks/Utah matchup. Each of these games will also air on ESPN+.
As for everything else you need to know about the Blackhawks & the NHL's "Opening Night"...
