Most St. Louis AM signals originate from the Illinois side of the Mississippi river. As a result, the land for a lot of them is not worth much. KZQZ's towers are still standing. Overgrown with weeds. In any other market they would have sold the land. There was some interest in putting 1430 back on the air but it never happened.
I believe there was one situation where the land went to an Amazon facility but that was an exception to the rule. Nobody really wants land in and around East St. Louis. If anybody understands the economy there, it makes sense.
So AM typically thrives in St. Louis. There are a lot of AM stations on the air. But most of them are Religious and Brokered in nature.
