On Thursday, Stone provided a cryptic message on Twitter/X regarding his future...Or possibly lack thereof. For the former Sox pitcher turned analyst, this season has worn on him like everyone else.
Now 77, Stone has cut back on his workload in recent years taking at least 2 series off per season. Former Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham, who is also part of the Atlanta Braves' pre & postgame crew on Bally Sports South, has filled in alongside first year play by play voice John Schriffen when Stone is away.
Schriffen did thank Stone for his support during John's first season as the team's new TV PBP voice. While fans & media have criticized Schriffen's style, Stone feels that John has actually settled into his role and feels that Schriffen will get better in due time. Could this be a possible one & done for Schriffen though?
As for how much longer Stone will continue to analyze the Sox following this possibly historic season of MLB futility...Stay tuned.
