Why go through a huge number of callers to hit your dial position?

Let's take Z95 from the past as an example.

If the DJ taking calls during a Bon Jovi song hits upon a sexy female who happens to be caller #15, he might be inclined to stop and declare her a winner.

This leads to radio groupies but perhaps that topic could be for another discussion. Keeping in mind this is a family media board.
