I have to believe that Hubbard Radio, owners of WSHE, would have to pay a certain amount of money to this sports talk station in Alabama to change the call letters.

No. xxxx-AM is different from xxxx-FM as is xxxx-LP.

There was no money exchanged. The FM counterpart to WTBC-AM is a translator, W265CG aka "Tide 100.9"
