Bill Gamble was out of control trying to recreate Q101. (One trick pony, lightning strikes once) WZZN "The Zone" was never a real 80s outlet. I still cringe thinking about "Lunatic Fringe" being on the playlist. He was in the PD position there for WAYYYYY too long. The good ol boys club syndrome letting people not capable, run rampant. He is actually not a bad PD, his own personal opinion what the station should be lead to him picking parts of the research and ignoring other parts of it, always doing what he thought should be done. This is not gut instinct which makes good radio, this is a purposeful direction not warranted and kept spinning the format wheel to keep himself in place with a job.
Speaking to someone @ BCR, they said in hindsight, they should have not flipped formats so fast, as WZZN was not a factor, not a competitor direct or not, a few months after launch.
