This morning, it was learned that Benetti will be bolting Chicago's South Side for a division rival.
In a surprise move to many, Benetti has signed a multi-year deal to become the new TV voice of the Detroit Tigers starting next season, scheduled to be broadcast there on Bally Sports Detroit.
According to the press release from White Sox Chief Revenue and Marketing Director Brooks Boyer, the plan is to keep Len Kasper fully committed to the radio side. The team will immediately begin a search to find the best person to pair with Steve Stone on the TV broadcasts.
If the Sox are looking for such a candidate, I think I might have the ideal choice. Sox fans here and in Boston are familiar with the name Mike Monaco. The 30 year old Monaco is considered to be a rising name in sports media and already has quite a resume.
Since 2019, Monaco has been the primary fill-in for Dave O'Brien on NESN's regional broadcasts of Boston Red Sox baseball. He's also called MLB, the College World Series, the Little League World Series, College Football & Basketball as well as NHL on ESPN's family of networks.
Since the 2020 pandemic, Monaco has also called Bulls, Blackhawks & White Sox games on a part-time basis. Might he be the guy to become the full-time Sox TV voice with Benetti headed to the "Motor City"? Stay tuned.
