Tesla and Ford want AM radio gone, 1 reason at least, they can't or don't want to spend money to filter out the hash generated by electric motors and high voltage systems.

A lot of manufacturers have simply been making AM receivers really crappy, so the received audio sounds like horse dung. This has been getting worse year after year since AM Stereo faded off.
