The 8 minute spot load is, to pay off debt. I believe that was pointed out in these hallowed pages.
In Milwaukee, I'm lucky/blessed to have WRJN, FonzFM or 106.9.('RJN and 106.9 are heavy 60s 70s.)
"Creativity in radio today" as you know is such a niche!
Like you, I have airchecks. WE have lived through what we consider to be a good time. Some 20 year old thinks today is good! Yikes!
Big time dx'er. Hearing the same feed on 22 stations or talk of spaceships all night long... sigh! ("caller from Uranus?") <--that was a joke! Don't know if someone gets a sense of humor.
Old enough to remember 6 jocks per station, 24 hour newsrooms and picking up the charts weekly on Friday. Wow, I'm old!
Still, we are survivors. I'm glad as hell that in 1980, the radio PD told me "we were looking for someone more exciting than you!" This for a shift from 11pm-5am, to talk to the cows! (Had my 3rd class, endorsed ticket.) NOTE: pay was horrid. I'd be forced to eat dog food!
I'd know in the long run, I was better being out of radio.
Z, if it means anything, your responses are well thought out, intelligent and you have a good IQ. You, Jeremy and others on here, are articulate. Just thought I'd say thank you for the good, healthy discussion through the years and I guess decades!
Back to the original post, I DO feel sorry for those let go! They are paying for the mistakes of someone else, up the chain of command! An old boss of mine said, in 1990, or so, "everything is politics!" This stands true!
