WZTI (Fonz FM) was doing OK but Saga flipped 106.9 to Oldies last year and took a big slice out of their ratings. 106.9 is a jukebox, has a bad signal, but it has a wide variety and has been getting decent ratings in that demo and probably the best 6+ numbers that signal has had in decades. They don’t expect it to make much money. They use it to package market with WKLH and to flank WRIT for WKLH. WZTI has niche with small businesses who otherwise wouldn’t advertise on radio.
WZTI’s sisters WLUM and WLDB are decent stations with local programming, but they struggle technically. Big engineering shortage.
Saga and Milwaukee Radio Alliance, unlike iHeart and Audacy still consider themselves radio companies and still do locally programmed radio. Their FMs benefit from it in the ratings.
