They also have the benefit (as I mentioned) of having listeners who listen to their podcasts, and rank them in the Top 50 (That’s no easy task in that world) in some cases these listeners might not even listen to most of their programming on the radio, but might turn them on to catch a show in the car.
The CHR stations, I think a lot of 25-34s are the ones keeping them afloat. WKSC just did a special for their 21st Anniversary. Played a lot of songs from 2001. A number of people were commenting anout how it reminded them of Middle School. Taxi and Lyft drivers tend to use radio quite often. I’ve heard WKSC and B96 in cabs.
In regards to the stations not ranking, they might not subscribe to Nielsen. If they don’t, you won’t see them. Some companies only subscribe in certain markets. EMF is an example of this. They do in Chicago, but not Milwaukee. Some subscribe for periods of time and then end it. When that happens, their numbers disappear from the public list.
