Re: Nina Leaves Mornings At WBBM-F (B96)/Chicago
People who have not worked in broadcasting are always shocked when I tell them radio is no different in the way it is managed than any other business. There are people who fail everywhere they go yet somehow keep getting hired. The best people for the job are not always hired. Friends get hired. Favors are done to get hired. Drinking buddies and good old boys networks are alive and well. Women are discriminated against based on their appearance even if they are extremely talented. The same politics that exist at the local hardware store or business office exist at radio stations. And in this world of voice tracking and consolidation the available jobs for good people continues to shrink every day. That is why many years ago I decided to work for myself and so far I have not been fired, although I have often threatened to quit.
