Since PPM has become the word for ratings, it shows that AM drive is not the important one. Afternoons are. Of course, PPM is real time and can change for many reasons.
The idea of morning show, leads to more office listeners, to driving home, is old school. It makes sense and you are correct. But now, people listen to Digital Broadcasts, YouTube, music off their USB drive or flash memory on their phone, etc. Listening habits have changed.
Money alone will not fix this. Nor will music tweaking. Making decisions will. There is no innovation. All these stations mimic each other. There is no distinctive difference in on air talent (now the trend of no on air talent, which makes NO sense that people can get that commercial free on their own devices or online), no difference of music.
Music tweaking needs to be earth shattering: "Hello we are B96, this is a song you will not hear on the competition". They do not need to say KISS. Your listeners will know. They are hitting each other over the head for a middle of the pack 2 share.
When is the last time anyone did anything balls out in this market on the radio?
