I have also had it with all of the “live read” spots I hear on news/talk and sports stations in abundance. The afternoon guy Parkins on WSCR is the most obnoxious because he will sell himself out to any product. I’ve even heard him talk about Sport Clips for months, saying how great they are. Then when they stopped advertising he ripped them, saying what a crappy haircut he got and that you need to go to a more expensive place if you want a good haircut. How does that guy still have a job? Anyway, the announcers generally but not always get paid a flat rate to read the ads and usually bonuses based on how many people say they heard the spot from them or on their station. That’s why they always have a special code for you to mention, you’re really not getting a better deal than anywhere else but that’s a mechanism they use to trace where you heard the ad. “My Pillow” used to give big bonuses to the announcers doing testimonials. I think at one point they were getting something like $30 for every pillow they sold. So the announcers would really hype up what a great product it was.
