From the FCC's perspective, it's crazy that they are entertaining this whole "shave off a piece of our 6 MHz channel for data-less analog audio" which effectively reduces the digital bandwidth for this DTV station by at least 9%. With HEVC/M.265 video that could cost 2 or 3 DTV subchannels.
What if every TV station decides to do funky things with their 6 MHz spectrum? TV broadcasters on Channels 5 or 6 could say, heck, many radios today can tune down to 76 MHz, let's petition the FCC to shave off more of our digital signal for a few more faux-FM stations.
If this spectrum adjacent to FM Broadcast truly is more profitable and serves the public better than TV broadcasts, make that official.
The FCC needs to get back in control of the situation.
