In 2007, they put it on the tower outside of their building on McKinley Ave (1340, 102.9, 98.3 and 1340’s translator on 98.7 are all on it) They had to go directional to protect WPPN at that point. They wanted better building penetration in the downtown office buildings for the Smooth Jazz format. They turned on HD in 2010 so they could put the Smooth Jazz on HD2. Didn’t last long. Ended up turning it off. Less than a year I think.
It’s a flanker for WKLH. Not much else. There’s not much else they can do with the signal.
It had a Modern AC format in the late 90s as The Point. The WPNT calls ended up there. That ended up being successful but the competing stations with the bigger signals caught up. They went Rhythmic Oldies (Jammin’ 106-9) in 1999. The format was swapped with 98.3 at the end of 2000. At that point, 98.3 was already on the tower and it had a better signal in Milwaukee proper. They tweaked 98.3 to Urban AC in August ‘01. That turned out to be a good idea.
