As for Boost, I hope it is able to help find people in distress hopefully lead them to a better place in life through the Hip-Hop they play. At the very least by giving them a positive message any changing their mood and attitude for the better. Air1 did this for me in my Early 20s with the rock they played. Was in a tough spot and felt accepted there. Never was treated bad or otherwise when I listened and interacted with them back then. For younger Christians in their teens, it’s probably even more helpful. Some parents refuse to let their kids listen to non Christian music. A lot of Christian Rock, Pop and Hip-Hop was created to sound similar to mainstream acts in part for that reason. This to an extent allows those kids and teens to listen to music that sounds like the music the others listen to. The now defunct WRGX in Sturgeon Bay used to play mostly Christian Punk Rock. That’s what was “in” at the time. Skate punk. Pop punk. They had an entire format for those who otherwise were not allowed to listen to the genre.
With all of that said, getting younger people to listen to Christian Radio at will can be bard. Christian AC is the norm. Back when Air1 started in 1995 (For example) the intent was to get men to listen. Christian AC was always an adult female dominated format. Jesus Freak by DC Talk was the first song Air1 ever played and when you hear the sound of it, you’ll hear what they did and who they were targetting in those early years. Younger Christian Men who otherwise had nowhere to go and feel like they had something for them.
Boost I strongly believe can do this for the modern teens and younger adults of all races. I hope it works out for them. Christian CHR and Christian formats targetting young people who might be seeking something more positive is something I strongly believe in.
