This is so standard for news outlets it's hard to believe Barta was not aware of these expectations and guidelines. Not sure what's in the WTTW handbook, but here are examples from the NYT and Associated Press:

Unlike journalists, there's no ethical obligation for actors or athletes to maintain an impression of impartiality or neutrality. I may not agree with everything celebrities have to say, and to be honest, don't pay their political opinions much attention. But I really don't find it that hard to ignore their political statements and just enjoy their on-screen or on-court performances.
For us plebs, I think common sense goes a long way, and if you have to think very hard about "would my employer (or future employer) be embarrassed or offended by what I'm about to post?" then maybe you don't need to post it on social media.
