Here’s a story... My father owned a small gas station at an Interstate exit back in the 80s. There were two other stations at that exit. For several years the hours were 5am to 9pm. Business was good, especially mid-morning. Then, he decided to go 24h. Business from about 11pm through 4am was negligible. In fact, profit was negative from midnight through 3am.
However... Over the course of several months, business from 5am through 8am increased, and 4pm through 9pm really increased — all during the original hours of operation. It’s psychology. People began to associate his business with always being there, they didn’t encounter the lights being off, ever. Even if someone only ventured out one time at 2:45am for a gallon of milk, that reliability sticks. The increase in business completely overshadowed the negative profit hours.
I’ve been watching NewsNation for the past couple hours. I feel that NN has a good product here, but I am less likely to check WGN America first because most of the time a sitcom is on and I have to try something else... Which conditions me to always try another network first.
Be reliable. Always on. Cover as much of the US as possible, through any means possible.
