The Rock and Dance audience, especially classic, are viciously committed to the music and format. They are the most loyal P1 listeners. The scene is active with clubs, both musical formats. Their loyalty and the high cost to outlay for the format is one reason why you don't hear this format, Active Rock, Mainstream Rock, Classic Dance, or Current Dance on terrestrial airwaves, regardless being one of the most widely streamed formats.
Yes, it is many years ago. When ZROCK 106.7 waltzed into town, everyone assumed Scott Loftus RPM, Real Precious Metal on a 3KW Class A MONO signal would perish. ZROCK was on the bird all day long. They would hire local scabs to go hand out swag. The people were brutal toward them. ZROCK was gone a year later. RPM still moved forward.
Some formats you can go cheap and on the bird, national or Hard Drive. Others, you can't. This is one of them.
